What happens in Parshas Lech Lecha

Hashem speaks to Avram and tells him to leave his land, his birthplace and his father's house and go to a land that Hashem will show him. Avram goes right away, together with Sarai and his nephew Lot, and wherever they travel they teach people about Hashem. When Lot's shepherds let their flocks graze in other people's fields, Avram kindly suggests that they live apart, so that there will be no quarrel between relatives.

When four mighty kings capture Lot in a war, Avram goes out with a small band and rescues him, and he refuses to keep any of the treasure for himself. One night Hashem takes Avram outside and tells him to count the stars: so many will his children be. Later Hashem gives Avram and Sarai new names, Avraham and Sarah, and Avraham Avinu enters into the bris milah, a covenant between Hashem and his children forever.

How your child steps into the story

Your child walks with Avraham Avinu's caravan as it sets out for a new land, and stands beside him under the night sky as he looks up at the countless stars. The story ends near his tent at Elonei Mamre, where three travelers will soon appear on the road.
